Research Support Funds

Advanced students are encouraged to seek funding for their research as necessary. The Center for Fellowship and Scholarship Advising is available to support you in applying for external grants and fellowships. In addition to seeking external grants, there are several competitive programs in the department and on campus that provide support for dissertation research.

Research Excellence Doctoral Funding Fellowships:  [UPDATE, 12/24: 24/25 is the final year of our current REDF funding cycle. The Grad School has paused the program for the 25/26 year for assessment. We will update this space when we know more about the program's status and our ability to apply for another cycle.] These fellowships, which provide a full release from teaching duties across one academic year, are competitively awarded to doctoral programs in a three year cycle. We issue a call in late March for applications from students who will have defended their dissertation prospectus by the May deadline specified by the Grad School. We typically have two lines available each year during our funding cycle and they are funded at the same level as a TA line ($23,000).

Humanities Center Dissertation Fellowship: This one-year fellowship exclusively supports research and writing during the final year of the dissertation. It offers $25,290 as well as an $1,800 research stipend. See the linked page for more information and keep an eye out for the annual call for proposals.

Engaged Humanities Research Assistantships: This one-year fellowship provides a release from teaching to conduct research and writing in the publicly engaged humanities. It is jointly funded by the Graduate School School and the Engaged Humanities Program and typically pays $23,575. See the linked page for more information.
