Collecting Student Work

Collecting Student Work

Collecting student work—face-to-face or electronic—is your responsibility. Envelopes on office doors and boxes in hallways are a violation of FERPA and fire codes.

The Writing Department requires instructors to return papers to students. (Instructors may retain student writing for research purposes if they have the student's written permission.) In the unlikely event that you are unable to return a paper to a student, Syracuse University requires that you keep it, anticipating that you will be able to return it within one year from the end of the course. We do not have the resources to store or return students' papers for you. If you're leaving the Writing Department, talk with Linda Taylor regarding the papers you have not yet returned.
