Student Housing

Undergraduate students in the Washington Semester program are required to live in the housing options arranged by the University except in rare circumstances. Currently, students in the program are living in TurnKey Housing but at other times students may be living in other contracted and fully-furnished apartments in close proximity to Maxwell's D.C. campus headquarters, either the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) or the Washington DC Program Center.

Roommate Selection

After being accepted into the Maxwell in Washington program, students will be asked to fill out a brief roommate questionnaire.  The form will be electronically submitted to the DC Programs Coordinator who will review your responses and match you with roommates with similar habits. Please note that we will do our best to take your preferences into account when we place students in the apartments. If you know others in the program who you wish to room with, please state that at the end of the form and we will do our best to accommodate these preferences.

Housing Accommodations

If you are seeking disability-related housing for the semester you must submit, if you have not already, a request to the Center for Disability Resources (CDR) within 30 days of the application deadline. To expedite requests, students are asked to complete the registration form and check ‘Disability-Related Housing Accommodation(s) Only.’  Indicate in your registration that this request is for the upcoming semester in Washington, DC. Students already registered with CDR can submit a supplemental request using the Student Disability Portal in MySlice to make their housing request. For more information, visit CDR’s website at https://disabilityresources.syr.edu/students/ .

Fill out application - you will not be selecting the actual space but can make notations in the application under comments as to preferences (most likely you will be placed in South Campus, unless there is available space in Main Campus housing)

  • You will be notified a week before the upcoming semester begins of your housing placement

  • If nothing is available, they will let you know sooner
