Important Registration Dates

 

The Add Deadline for the Fall Semester is TODAY September 3rd. You must add all courses for the fall semester by the end of the day today. The Registrar does NOT allow late adds.

 

The Academic/Financial Drop Deadline is September 16th. You must drop all courses prior to this date or you will be charged for the class. Registrar & Bursar do NOT provide refunds for failure to drop a course for any reason.

Eric Klinenberg, Helen Gould Shepard Professor in the Social Sciences and director of the Institute for Public Knowledge at New York University, will present “2020: How America’s Year of Crises Has Shaped 2024” at the 36th Annual Herbert Lourie Memorial Lecture on Health Policy.

Eric Klinenberg’s research focuses on climate change, democracy, culture, media, technology and social policy—with implications for U.S. population health and wellbeing. His new book, “2020: One City, Seven People, and the Year that Everything Changed,” presents a “social autopsy” of 2020, profiling New Yorkers against the backdrop of the presidential election, the surge in misinformation, rising distrust and protests.

Peer to Peer: Geopolitics of Food: War, Politics and the Quest for Global Stability

In the first Peer to Peer of the semester, Humphrey fellow Güler Ünlü explores the transformative power of food within the complex landscape of global geopolitics. What was once merely a source of sustenance has now evolved into a critical element of economic, political, and social stability. Through the lens of recent global crises—including the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war— she’ll discuss the dramatic shifts in global food markets and the rising influence of key players.

GEO 600: GIS Programming with Python

GIS Programming with Python with Prof. Xuebin Yang

Mondays & Wednesdays 12:45PM-2:05PM

 

Design and development of geospatial applications is identified as one of three industry-sector technical competencies by US Department of Labor. This skill will also hugely empower you in your academic arena. Python programming in GIS environment will ensure you such a skill and competency.

The course ‘GIS Programming with Python’ (GEO 300/600) will introduce you the fundamentals and skills of Python programming in GIS environment. Particularly, it will allow you to (1) automate routine tasks with vector and raster data, (2) customize geospatial data processing, (3) create a simple tool with GIS applications in mind.

Both undergraduate and graduate students are welcome. No prior programming experience is required. For more information, please contact Dr. Xuebin Yang (xyang110@syr.edu).

  • If you would like to use a locker in the AV hallway during the 24-25 academic year, please stop by the PAIA office in 215 Eggers Hall or email Ken Dwyer.

    • You may have a locker assigned for you to use through the academic year to keep any belongings while you are on campus.
