Sharing Teams files & folders with outside people

Follow these steps to share a file or folder in a Team with someone outside of SU.

  1. Locate the file or folder to share in the Team.

  2. Click the small icon to the right of the file or folder name:
  3. Enter the outside email address
    1. A message should appear that the person "is outside of your organization".
    2. If instead you see a message "You can only share within your organization", please reach out to archit@syr.edu.
  4. Also click the Pencil icon to confirm you want the person to be able to edit the file or folder. You can change to "Can view" to make it read-only.

  5. Add a message and then click Send.

  6. When the other person receives your invite, they will likely need to confirm their identity by entering their email address and receiving a confirmation code.

Stop sharing a file or folder with someone

  1. In the Team, right click the file or folder and choose 'Manage Access'.

  2. Click 'Stop sharing' to remove all sharing.
