Checking a Blackboard course quota

BB Courses start out with 1GB of storage space, which may not be enough as you add content. Note that content uploaded by your students for assignments is not part of the quota.

To request a quota increase to 2.5GB (the maximum), send an email to bb@su-jsm.atlassian.net. Include the Course Name and Course ID (located above the course title).

Faculty can request their own increase for courses. Arch IT staff handle requests for BB Organizations.

Tips to regain space

If you've already requested a quota increase to 2.5GB and again run out of space, try these methods to recover space.

  • Try the 'unused files' feature.
    • Unused files are items that exist in the content collection but are not deployed anywhere in the course’s content area.
    • Click on the ellipsis menu next to the magnifying glass and select Unused Files.
    • Select the unused files to delete and select Delete Files in the lower right hand corner of the page.

  • Optimize/compress PDFs.
  • Compress PowerPoint files.
  • Link videos using Kaltura instead of uploading video files as content.
    • First upload your video to your Kaltura account at https://video.syr.edu.
    • In Blackboard on the Submission screen, click the plus icon in the text editor > Content Market.

    • Then click on Kaltura Media and choose the video to link.
