5 Things International Students Wish They Knew Before Moving to Syracuse
Going to college is an adjustment for any student, especially for a student that is moving to a new country. If you are coming to Syracuse as an international graduate or undergraduate student, here are some things that other international students wish they knew when they arrived at Syracuse University.
Center for International Services
The Syracuse University Center for International Services is the resource for international students, scholars and their dependents on issues related to immigration status, employment, cultural, social and academic concerns which impact your success at Syracuse University. The staff and programs at the Center for International Services help you with your transition to life at Syracuse University.
Office of Multicultural Affairs
The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) provides the necessary support and guidance needed to encourage students to become members of a community respectful of differences. OMA helps students in growing into individuals willing to take a proactive stance against all forms of oppression. Our staff offers one-on-one support for students of color at Syracuse University and strives to reach out to and support students who are struggling with mixed messages they may receive in dealing with the issues of race and diversity in their own communities.
The Office of Equal Opportunity, Inclusion, & Resolution Services
The mission of the Office of Equal Opportunity, Inclusion, and Resolution Services (EOIRS) is to work with students, faculty and staff to foster a climate of inclusion, opportunity, and diversity. EOIRS works across all divisions of the University to build community and cultivate a culture of respect, safety, and equity that ensures legal compliance but also goes beyond it, in accordance with the University’s values. Its staff is dedicated to assisting those with concerns or complaints, and to educating members of the University community about their rights and responsibilities with regard to how they are treated and treat others.
Student Tutoring Program for First-Year Students
The Center for Learning and Student Success (CLASS) provides and facilitates academic support services for Syracuse University students, including one-on-one tutoring, small-group tutoring and workshops, academic coaching and academic integrity education and training. CLASS also offers dedicated tutoring and academic support for first-year Mandarin-speaking students.
