3D Scanning
The scanners we use in the ComArt Fab Lab operates based off photogrammetry. This process uses 3D information from photographs to stitch together an object. The process involves taking overlapping photographs of an object, structure, or space, and converting them into 3D digital models. Surveyors, architects, and engineers often use photogrammetry to create topographic maps, meshes, point clouds, or drawings based on the real world.
Within the Warehouse digital fabrication space we offer a smaller but more precise 3D scanner that builds digital models using structured light. This process entails projecting a narrow band of light onto a three-dimensionally shaped surface produces a line of illumination that appears distorted from other perspectives than that of the projector, and can be used for geometric reconstruction of the surface shape (light section).
