Batch Edit

Batch edit is a tool that can be used to change visibility, release conditions, and due dates. This tool can also be used to batch delete content. Batch editing saves instructors valuable time when maintaining and updating their courses. 

Navigating to Batch Edit

On the course content page, on the right side click on the three dot icon to the right of the search icon. Select Batch Edit. 

Once on the Batch Edit page, the content will display in the order that it appears on the Course Content page. Click on modules or folders to expand them. Items can be sorted by name, due date, show on date, hide after date, or visibility. 

Select items by clicking the box next to the item that you would like to update; you can select up to 100 items at a time. Once selected, you can edit dates, visibility, or delete the items by selecting the action buttons at the bottom of the page. Once an action has been completed, you will receive confirmation in the banner that appears at the top of the panel that the items were adjusted.  A green banner shows that all items were successfully updated. 

A yellow banner confirms that some items were updated, but some items or dates were not able to be updated. 

Edit Dates

Batch Edit can be used to update due dates and release condition on items. Dates can be updated by: changing the individual date, changing dates by a number of dates, changing dates based on course start date,  or changong to a specific date and time.

Due dates can only be updated if the item has an existing due date. Due dates cannot be added using Batch Edit.



Change individual item date

Individual dates can be changed within Batch Edit. To change one item's dates, click on the calendar icon on the right side of the screen on the row of the item. The due date can be adjusted or deleted by selecting the trash can icon. Release conditions can be updated if there were existing release conditions on the item.  If there are no existing release conditions, click the plus sign to the left of "add show on date" and/or "add hide after date" to add release conditions to the item. 

Change dates by number of days

Select items by clicking on the box to the left of the item name. Click Edit Dates. Click on the dropdown menu and select" Change dates by number of days". Enter the number of days the dates should be shifted forward or backward. Then click "Edit Dates". 





Example: A snowstorm closes campus for two day at the start of the semester. Batch Edit can be used to push all days forward 2 days. 

Change dates based on course start

Dates in a course can changed based on the start date of a course. 





Example: Content was copied from the previous semester and the course's start date was August 28th, 2023. The new start date is January 16, 2024. All dates for the selected items are adjusted forward 141 days.

Change to specific date and/or time

Due dates and release conditions can be changed to a specific time and date. 





Example: Due dates and release conditions for Module 1 need to be updated for this semester. All items and release conditions can be updated at once. 

Edit Visibility

Batch Edit can be used to make groups of items visible or hidden from students. Select items for which you wish to edit the visibility. Next, choose Edit Visibility in the bottom right of the panel. Select whether the items should be hidden or visible to students. Any previous settings for visibility will be overwritten and release conditions will be removed from the selected items. Click "Save Visibility" to save the changes made. 

Delete Items

Groups of items on the Course Content page can be deleted using Batch Edit. Select items that you want to delete by selecting the box to the left side of the item name. The click "Delete Items" from the bottom right of the panel. Once the delete content pop up appears, click "Delete" to delete the items.
