Delegated Grading

Topic Overview

Instructors can delegate grading to specific users. You can assign specific users in your course to grade particular sets of student assignment submissions. You can divide up the grading tasks among TAs and other graders.

Roles with default grading privileges include instructor, teaching assistant, and grader.

Enable Delegated Grading

  1. Access a content area in your course.
  2. Hover over Assessments and click Assignment.

  3. Given the assignment a Title and determine the appropriate points.
  4. Scroll down to the Grading section and click on Grading Options to expand the section.

  5. Click the checkbox to Enable Delegated Grading. You will see a list of potential graders.
  6. Use the 'Show' dropdown list to filter the list. Use the dropdown list next to each grader's name to assign submissions to grade:

    1. All Submissions

    2. Random Set - Grade a random set of the selected number of students. If multiple graders are assigned to grade a random set, students are distributed evenly before any student is included in multiple random sets.

    3. Groups - Grade all students who are part of the selected course groups

  7. All instructors in a course can see what other graders assigned. If you want other roles to also view scores, feedback, and notes added by others, select the check box in the View Settings column.

  8. In the Reconcile Grades column, determine who can view the final grade and feedback for each student. All instructors can reconcile grades.

Reconcile Grades

Users who have been given access to reconcile grades can do so from either the Full Grade Center or the Needs Grading page.

All instructors can reconcile grades.

Reconcile Grades from the Full Grade Center

  1. From the course control panel, go to the Grade Center > Full Grade Center.
  2. After a grade is provided by a delegated grader, the Needs Reconciliation icon appears in the Grade Center cell. No score appears until the instructor role reconciles the grade.

  3. Only the instructor role can select Reconcile Grades from the grade column's contextual menu. Click the drop down arrow next to the name of the column and click Reconcile Grades.

  4. The instructor role can view all the grades that all graders assigned and see who has grading to perform. For large classes, filter the list by status and grader. Scores that appear with a comment icon have feedback.

  5. Instructors can accept the grades set by another OR review grades assigned by multiple graders and set the final grades.

    1. Show Grader Progress - Click to view the progress of all graders, what the grader assigned for the average grade for the assignment, and the number of attempts.

    2. Show Detail View - View existing grades, feedback, and view a rubric if one has been associated.  From this view, you can hide all the graders' feedback, add new feedback, and determine the final grade.

    3. Add Grader - Add one or more grader for a student

    4. Determine Final Grade - Use the drop down lists to assign a final grade for each student.  Or use, the Final Grade drop down list in the column header to reconcile grades in bulk for highest, lowest, or average of the graders' scores

  6. After your reconcile grades, the Needs Reconciliation icons are replaced with the scores you assigned.
    1. The scores and the feedback each grader assigned can be viewed on the student's Grade Details page in the Grade History tab.

Reconcile Grades from the 'Needs Grading' Page

Grades can also be reconciled from the Needs Grading page in the Blackboard course.

  1. In the Control Panel, click on Grade Center > Needs Grading.
  2. Click 'Item Name' to sort by assignment, if desired.
  3. Click on the dropdown arrow next to the name of the item for which you wish to reconcile grades, and choose Grade All Users.
  4. You will see the grade assigned by the delegated grader.

  5. Instructors can accept the grades set by another OR review grades assigned by multiple graders and set the final grades.
