Using the Microsoft Authenticator Mobile Application

Overview


The Microsoft Authenticator app helps you sign in to your accounts when you're using two-factor verification. 

When responding to an MFA push notification using Microsoft Authenticator, you will be presented with a number verification. That will need to be typed into the app to complete the approval.

Number matching is combined with location information to help ensure the sign-in request was in fact initiated by you, and not a malicious actor.

Before You Begin


Install the latest version of the Microsoft Authenticator app, based on your operating system:



Using Number Matching Verification



  1. Depending on how you are accessing Syracuse University resources, you might be prompted to log into to a service/app using MFA
    .
  2. After using signing in, you will be prompted with a number to enter into the Microsoft Authenticator App. Below is an example showing the login screen to the site on the left, and the Microsoft authenticator on the right:
