Reporting Fire incidents in the lab/classroom
Syracuse University Fire and Life Safety Services suggests the following corrective actions be put in place going forward:
- Any experiments involving open flame that are conducted in a classroom or other area that are not teaching laboratories, Fire and Life Safety (FLSS) must be notified 24 hours prior to the experiment taking place.
- The following information shall be provided:
- Date and time of the experiment
- Person in charge of the experiment
- Where the experiment is to be conducted, i.e. Building Name and Room Number
- Brief description of the experiment
- Fire and Life Safety staff will conduct a check of the area to ensure all protective measures are in place and will make a determination at that time if we need to assign FLSS personnel to be present for the duration of the experiment.
