Avid Pro-Tools

This guide explains how to install Avid Pro Tools on your personal computer and connect to the Syracuse University iLok license server. Follow the steps in order. You must connect to the Azure VPN before opening Pro Tools or connecting to the iLok server.

Before you begin: Make sure you have your Syracuse University NetID access, an invitation to your class Microsoft Teams group, Azure VPN access, and the iLok server password provided by your professor.

Step 1: Connect to Azure VPN first (ONLY FOR STUDENTS)

  1. Open the Azure VPN instructions and connect to the VPN before continuing. The iLok license server will not appear unless you are connected to the VPN.

Step 2: Download and install Pro Tools

  1. Go to the Microsoft Teams group your professor invited you to for the class that uses Pro Tools.

  1. Open the General channel, then select Shared at the top of the channel.

  1. Download the Avid Pro Tools installer.

  1. Open the downloaded installer and install Pro Tools.

    1. The installation may take a while because Pro Tools is a large application.

  2. When the installation is finished, open your Applications folder and launch iLok License Manager.

    1. iLok License Manager is the application that connects your Pro Tools installation to the Syracuse University license server.

Step 3: Connect iLok License Manager to the license server

  1. If iLok License Manager asks to update, allow the update to run. We recommend enabling automatic update checks so iLok stays current.

  2. In the menu bar, select iLok License Manager, then choose Preferences.

  1. In Preferences, select My Connections from the left side menu.

  1. Enter your first and last name in the Name Field and your Syracuse University email address in the Email field.

  2. Check Automatically connect to license servers found on the network (LAN).

  3. Select the NEWH-MP2DHR4VHV server in the list.

    1. *if it does not appear see troubleshooting below

  4. Click the small gear icon near the bottom-left of the window, then choose Connect.

  1. Confirm your name and email address, then enter the iLok server password provided by your professor.

  1. When you see the Server Connection Successful message, select OK. You can now open Pro Tools.
