Individual Development Plans (Oct 16, 2020)

Thoughtful Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and annual review documents (ARDs) are powerful tools for graduate students and postdocs to focus their training goals with an eye towards future careers. IDPs and ARDs are increasingly common in many professional settings, so learning how to use them effectively is an important part of graduate student and postdoc development. To help make sense of the mentor's role in this process, the Institute hosted a workshop and panel discussion about Individual Development Plan (IDPs) on October 16, 2020. In addition to the recording, the following IDP materials and templates were shared by workshop panelists (Katie Becklin, Jay Henderson, and Lisa Manning). They have kindly shared these materials for use by BioInspired faculty.

Group Expectations Manuals

Being clear with expectations for your research group members sets an excellent leadership example for your trainees and can improve trust and efficiency within your team. Several BioInspired faculty have offered their group manuals as examples to help you get started on your own. They have all agreed to share with full rights to modify for your use in your own groups.
