Anchor Macro

Overview


If you have a long page of information, you can insert anchors into your page.  Other pages can then link to these anchors to take users directly to that section of the linked page. 

Using The Macro


Placing An Anchor On A Page

  1. Select the "Insert" button from the toolbar and then "Other Macros"
  2. In the search box that appears on the "Select Macro" screen, enter anchor
  3. Select the "Anchor" macro
  4. Enter the anchor name to link to and then click on 'Insert"  The named anchor will appear on the page screen while in edit mode but be invisible in page view mode: Note that achnor names can include spaces (they will be automatically removed by Answers from the URL) and are case sensitive.

  1. Select the Link button on the editor toolbar.
  2. Choose Advanced from the menu options on the left-hand side of the "Insert Link" screen.
  3. Enter #anchorname into the Link field, then select Insert.

  1. Select the Link button on the editor toolbar.
  2. Choose Advanced from the menu options on the left-hand side of the Insert Link screen.
  3. Enter page_name#anchorname into the Link field, then select Insert.

Anchor Link On Different Page In Different Answers Space 


  1. Select the Link button on the editor toolbar.
  2. Choose Advanced from the menu options on the left-hand side of the Insert Link screen.
  3. Enter spacekey:page_name#anchorname into the Link field, then select Insert.  You can find the spacekey by going to a page within that space and looking at the URL – the spacekey appears right after /display/.
    1. Example:  https://answers.syr.edu/display/answers31/Home is the URL of the home page of Answers.  The spacekey is answers31.  To the link to the page in our example above from a page in a different Answers space, you would use:

Anchor Link On External Site 


  1. Select the Link button on the editor toolbar.
  2. Choose Advanced from the menu options on the left-hand side of the Insert Link screen.
  3. Enter the full URL and the anchorname.  
    1. Example:  https://mypersonalsite.example.com/Enhancing-Your-Page#insertmacro
