South Asia Center Graduate Student Travel Grant (Moynihan)

Applications are due Monday, September 11, 2023.


The South Asia Center Graduate Student Travel grant provides partial funding to graduate students presenting South Asia-related research at national conferences. This is an effort to help defray the cost of attending academic conferences.

Maximum awards will be $500. Not all students who apply will receive funding.  Students are eligible for one travel grant per academic year.

Please consider the following guidelines when filling out the form:

  1. The applicant must be a matriculated graduate student at SU, both at the time of submitting an application and at the time of travel.
  2. The student must be primary presenter for a presentation focusing on a South Asia-related topic in any discipline during the 2023-24 Academic Year (August 15, 2023-August 14, 2024). Preference will be given for national conferences such as Association for Asian Studies and the UW Madison South Asia Conference, but consideration will also be given for disciplinary conferences such as the American Anthropological Association, American Academy of Religion, American Political Science Association, etc., annual meetings.
  3. The student may use the grant to reimburse travel or lodging expenses, but not meals and other food.

To complete the application, you must submit:

  1. CV 
  2. Paper abstract
  3. Proof of acceptance to the conference (email, online schedule, etc.).  If you do not have proof of acceptance at the time of applying, we will ask you to submit it when available. If your paper does not get accepted, you will not receive the grant.

NOTE: Grant awardees  receive funds as reimbursement for approved expenses (travel/lodging).  All awardees must submit receipts for reimbursement.
