Important Fall 2024 Course Registration Information

Fall Course Registration opens for new graduate students this Thursday, August 1st at 10am!

  • What to know:

    • Make sure there are no holds on your account. If you have holds, those must be resolved with the respective department. We can’t remove any holds for you!

    • Have all courses ready in your shopping cart so you can click enroll when the clock strikes 10am. For instructions on how to do this, refer to our answers page that contains a tips and tricks presentation.

    • If a course is full, do not use the MySlice waitlist. Fill out our department waitlist in our here or email the PAIA inbox for the link.

      • The waitlist is a first come first serve basis after 10am. You will not be considered if you fill out the survey before registration opens

    • Refer to the course listings here if you are unsure what is being offered.

    • Refer to the MPA & MAIR Handbooks here for more detailed information about course requirements.

 

Drop-In Advising Hours

Emily Alber Chase will be holding drop-in advising office hours tomorrow July 30th & Wednesday, July 31st from 1PM-3PM.

This time is used for any students to drop-in with quick advising questions about your fall term schedule. To ensure everyone can have a chance to meet and ask their questions, please keep your time under 10 minutes.

 

 

Statistics & Economics Waiver Exams

The PAIA department offers the opportunity for students to test out of the Statistics & Economics core requirement by taking waiver exams. These are held once a year prior to the beginning of the fall semester. These will be held in Eggers Hall Room 209 from 9AM-12PM on August 19th (Statistics) & August 20th (Economics).

Waiver Sign-Up 

In the event that you pass the waiver exam, you must fulfill those credits by taking an extra 3-credit elective course. These credits are not waived completely, they are only waived from taking the statistics or economics course.

If you are taking a waiver exam, it is very important that you plan to register for PAI 721 or PAI 723 just in case you do not pass the exam. If you do not register for the course when registration opens and you do not pass the exam, you risk losing your seat in the course.

Center for International Services

If you are an international student, please visit the Center for International Services on-campus for a variety of resources.

There is an advisor on-call from 11:00AM – 3:00PM Monday – Friday to answer any questions you may have. You can attend in-person, by phone or by email. The Center’s contact information can be found below:

What is Answers?

Answers is a platform that Syracuse University uses as a student resource to find (you guessed it)…answers!

The PAIA department has it’s own link to a hub of information that is available for students to reference for a variety of topics.

MPA Program Office Hours

Prof. Saba Siddiki will hold an MPA Program Office Hours session on Friday, August 2nd from 12:00-1:00pm in the Center for Policy Research Collaboratory (426 Eggers Hall).

Office Hours sessions are informal sessions, in which students can drop in to discuss coursework, professional development, or anything else about their experience in the program that they would like to share.

While Office Hours sessions are held once per month, Prof. Siddiki is also available to meet with students outside of these scheduled sessions by appointment.
