Mexico City Info Session Tomorrow

The Mexico City Spring Break 2025 Information Session is tomorrow

If you are not able to attend this session and you are still interested in learning more, you can visit Dean McCormick’s office hours on Wednesdays or Fridays from 12:00PM-1:00PM in Eggers 200 (Dean’s Office).

 

Turkish Culture and Conversation Table

The Moynihan Institute’s Middle East Program presents the Fall 2024 Turkish Culture and Conversation Table Series. Come practice your language skills, and enjoy company and conversation. All levels are welcome!

Pizza and drinks will be provided.

MPA Program Office Hours

Prof. Saba Siddiki will hold an MPA Program Office Hours session on Friday, September 27th from 12:00-1:00pm in the Center for Policy Research Collaboratory (426 Eggers Hall).

Office Hours sessions are informal sessions, in which students can drop in to discuss coursework, professional development, or anything else about their experience in the program that they would like to share.

While Office Hours sessions are held once per month, Prof. Siddiki is also available to meet with students outside of these scheduled sessions by appointment.

 

NextGen Blood Drive

Next Generations Leadership Corps is working with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive:

NY/NJ Port Authority Information Session

Come join this informational session and learn what NY/NJ Port Authority has to offer. Hear from current fellowship coordinator as well as a Maxwell Alum. In this session, we will talk about the upcoming Leadership Fellowship as well as current job opportunities.

This two-year rotational program offers Port Authority Fellows invaluable on the job experience in several business function such as planning, finance, security, facility operations, human resources, and much more.

Peer to Peer: Creating Cultural Bridges at SU and Beyond

The English Language Institute at Syracuse University focuses on serving international students. Some of its cultural themes carry a universality in a globally-connected world. Olga Oganesyan will explore these themes based on her two decades of work in English as a second language including how to create a safe space for all cultures, stepping out of one’s cultural comfort zone, how to build community in a short period of time and leveraging spheres of cultural influence.

Olga Oganesyan is an EMPA candidate and Assistant Director Academic Programs at the English Language Institute of Syracuse University, where she has 20 years of experience teaching English as a second language.

 

Call for Proposals: Moynihan Graduate Student Research Grants

The Moynihan Institute will grant awards of up to $2,500 to graduate students of any discipline to support research concerning the following regions:

SOUTH ASIA – 32nd Annual Bharati Memorial Award

SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA

The purpose of the award is primarily to provide graduate students with the opportunity to conduct field research, pursue archival research, gather preliminary data, make contacts, map topics, undergo advanced language training, and increase competitiveness of future funding proposals.

Alumni Talk: Priority Based-Budgeting with Stuart Schillinger

Join Maxwell alumnus Stuart Schillinger G’86 to learn about priority-based budgeting, how to bring an entrepreneurial spirit to government work, and to hear real-world stories of cities making financial investments in the programs that are most important to the communities it serves.

Stuart Schillinger earned a Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in State and Local Finance from the Maxwell School in 1986. Following graduation, he began his career as an intern in Glendale, Arizona, progressing through roles as a Management Analyst in Encinitas, CA, Budget Manager in Reno, NV, and concluding 20 years in Brisbane, CA, where he served as Finance Director and Assistant City Manager. He also held the position of Interim City Manager in Half Moon Bay, CA. Throughout his career, Stuart’s primary focus has been on budget development.

National Academy of Public Administration 12 Grand Challenges

The National Academy of Public Administration is partnering with the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs and the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration to give graduate students the opportunity to propose solutions to one of the 12 Grand Challenges.

Over the next decade, all sectors of society must work together to address the critical issues of protecting and advancing democracy, strengthening social and economic development, ensuring environmental sustainability, and managing technological changes. The Academy’s 12 Grand Challenges offer an agenda for action that can drive solutions.

Graduate students are invited to submit a policy memo recommending an action the next US Presidential Administration (whether newly elected or reelected) should take to address a critical issue related to the Grand Challenge of their choice.

Requirements:

·         Memos should be no more than 1,500 words maximum.

·         Contestants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university graduate program or above.

·         The submission period closes September 27, 2024.

·         All entries must be the original work of the contestant.

·         Previously published works do not qualify for this competition.

·         Entries should only focus on one Grand Challenge.

·         AI-Generated or Assisted Texts are not eligible.

The Student Grand Challenge Memo Competition is part of the Academy’s Election 2024 Project to highlight the critical value of good government and its importance in safeguarding Democracy.
