Learn how to add the school's network printers to your personal laptop (Windows).

This only applies to non-school owned (personal) computers. Printers are pushed automatically to lab computers.

Printing from off campus is not supported.

How to add an ARCH network printer

Before going further, you will need to install the SU Azure VPN following these directions.

  • Once you have the VPN installed, before adding the printers, start the VPN app and sign in. When you are done adding the printers, disconnect the VPN.
  • Every time you want to print, you'll need to first start the VPN, then send the print. When done printing, disconnect the VPN.
  1. Right click the Windows start button and choose Run.

  2. Enter \\arch-print.ad.syr.edu and click OK.

  3. A login box should appear. Fill in your NetID and password. Your NetID must have ad\ in front. Enable 'Remember my credentials'.

  4. A list of printers will appear. Double click a printer to add it. Learn about the various Plot Room printers here.

Choose the Postscript printer whenever you see two names for the same printer.

  5. The Connecting box will say 'Looking for a driver' and then may say 'Downloading a driver'.

  6. The printer should then be available for printing. It will also appear under Windows Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  7. Repeat this process as many times as you like to add the various printers.

Adding Luma - Special procedure

  • If you get an 'access denied' message when trying to add ARCH-Luma-Postscript, follow these steps.
    1. Download the Luma Postscript driver here.
    2. Move the driver file to its own folder (create a folder and copy or move the file into it).
    3. Unzip/Extract the file. You should be left with a folder called 1.35 PS3.
    4. In the Windows search box, type 'control panel' and open the app.
    5. Under Hardware and Sound, click 'View devices and printers'.
    6. Windows 10: Single click on any one of the existing printers. This will cause a new menu item to appear at the top called 'Print server properties'. Click Print server properties.

Windows 11: Under Printers & Scanners, scroll down to Related settings and click Print server properties.
    7. In the Print Server Properties box, click the Drivers tab. Then click the Add button.
    8. The Add Printer Driver Wizard will start. Click Next and click Next again.
    9. Click 'Have Disk'. Click 'Browse'. Now browse to find the folder you unzipped/extracted, which was called '1.34 PS3' unless you renamed it. Keep browsing all the way down to the 'StandardFonts' subfolder. It's several levels deep.
    10. Once you are inside StandardFonts, you should see a file called OEMSETUP.INF. Select this file and then click Open.
    11. Click the OK button.
    12. A list of printers will appear. Scroll down the list and select 'OCE PlotWave 360 PS', then click Next.
    13. Wait up to 30 seconds while the driver installs. Then click the Finish button.
    14. Now that the Luma driver is installed, go back to Step 4 in the previous section and double click the printer to add it.

Fix Access Denied Error

  1. Your annual NetID password change may cause printing to stop working because Windows has stored the old password. To fix, update the password in Windows Credential Manager.
    1. In the Windows search box, type 'credential' and click Credential Manager.
    2. Click Windows Credentials and expand the entry for arch-print.ad.syr.edu.
    3. Click Edit and fill in your new NetID password and click Save.

How to release your print job

  1. Send your print to the printer.

  2. After your job finishes spooling, release your print using the school's PaperCut web page. Make sure you use Architecture's PaperCut web page (https://arch-print.syr.edu) and not SU's page (https://printing.syr.edu), which look similar except for the logo.

  3. Login with your NetID credentials.

  4. After logging in, release your job from the Jobs Pending Release screen. You can select {print} or Release All.
