- If you are traveling abroad and have 2 different phones: You can add a foreign phone number on the settings page (http://mfa.syr.edu/) under "alternate number", however you must do this before you begin your travel or start using the alternate number.
- If you are traveling abroad but use the same phone, changing its number when traveling: The mobile app is highly recommended if you bring the same phone with you when traveling, however, you can choose to use the alternate number method as well.

- To sign in with the alternate number, enter your email and password. Then when you see the 2FA prompt, click the link that reads "Sign in another way".
- If you wait about 60 seconds and do not enter any 2FA information, Microsoft will redirect you to a screen that reads "We didn't hear from you" at the top. If this page appears, you can still sign in using an alternate phone number by clicking the link that reads "get a code a different way".
