Q: Has the university changed its current masking alert? (August 15, 2022)

A: Yes. The University has discontinued its color-coded COVID Masking Framework, effective Aug. 15.


Q: What does this action mean for you? (August 15, 2022)

A:  As of that date, masking will be optional in all settings on campus for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, except where masking remains required by the New York State Department of Health (i.e., health care facilities and while on public transportation).

       We strongly encourage all members of the campus community to consider masking based on an assessment of personal risk, especially when in large groups, high-density areas of campus, or in response to an exposure to a known COVID-positive individual.


Q: What is the masking requirement at the College of Law ?

A: The College of Law follows Syracuse University's making guidance.


Q: Are classes being recorded this fall?

A: Yes.  Your professors are required to record class sessions on Zoom and to make the recordings available to students who miss class due to illness. 


Q: Can I attend my classes remotely this fall?

A: No, unless you are a JDinteractive student.


Q:  Is COVID testing available on campus? 

A:  The University is no longer operating an on-campus testing operations center for asymptomatic individuals. Symptomatic students in need of COVID testing services can make an appointment at the Barnes Center by calling 315.443.8000. Faculty and staff requiring a COVID test are encouraged to utilize a community provider, your primary care physician or an at-home COVID test.

At-home tests are available for at a highly subsidized cost in dedicated vending machines located across campus. Visit the COVID Testing page for locations. At-home tests are also available free of charge from the federal government, as well as obtained through the Barnes Center pharmacy and may be covered by your insurance carrier.


Q: What should I do if I test positive?

A:  If you tested at the Barnes Center, follow their instructions.  If your test result is from another testing location or an at-home test, please report your positive test result to the Barnes Center at the Arch at sucovid@syr.edu or 315.443.8000, and follow their instructions.


Q: What should I do if I experience COVID-19-like symptoms?

A: Please do not come to Dineen Hall. Proceed to get tested.


Q: How does COVID-19 affect the College of Law’s attendance policy?

A: Please review the College’s attendance policy, located Rules 9.1 and 9.2.3 of our Academic Handbook. It is important that you consult the syllabus for each of your classes to understand the attendance policies that apply to you. These policies are in full force and effect.  If you are experiencing a COVID-19-related absence, please contact Director of Student Affairs Sarah Collins as soon as possible and be in touch with your professors.  All classes are being recorded; recordings will be available to you for any classes you’ve had to miss due to illness.
