- If printing to the school network printers stops working after changing your NetID password, your old password is probably being stored in the macOS Keychain Access app and needs to be updated.
- A symptom of this problem is when you print and the job is stuck in the queue on your Mac with a ‘Hold for Authentication’ message.
- Sometimes you can fix this by clicking the small round circle on the right side:
- Which may then prompt for your login credentials as below:
- If this occurs, fill in your NetID and new password, and click the box next to ‘Remember this password in my keychain’. You are now finished!
But if the login box does not appear, you will need to update the password in Keychain Access as follows:
- Enter ‘Keychain Access’ into the macOS search box (magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner of the desktop). Or find it in Applications > Utilities.
- Once Keychain Access is open, click the Passwords category on the left. Search down the list until you find the name of one of the printers, such as ARCH-Koopa3-Postscript.
- Double click the printer name to open the attribute window. Click the ‘Show password’ checkbox and when prompted, enter your computer’s login password and click Allow.
- Once the password is revealed, you will probably find it is your old NetID password. Change it to your new password and then click Save Changes.
- Clear the print queue and try printing again (restart the computer if the print queue won’t clear).
