Add Kaltura Content to Blackboard Course

Kaltura is the supported video and media repository for Syracuse University faculty, staff, and students. Kaltura videos are best embedded into Blackboard courses within Blackboard documents, discussions, assignments, etc.

Embed Kaltura Video inside of a Blackboard Ultra Document

In the Course Content area, select the plus sign wherever you want to add a document. In the menu, select Create to open the Create Item panel and select Document.

Once inside the document, add a name to the document and then click content block which is the option middle of the left of the document.

To add a Kaltura video to your course, click on the plus sign icon   in the text editor and select "Content Market" from the dropdown list.

Select "Kaltura Media" from the alphabetical content market list.

As of Spring 2025 OLS recommends embedding Kaltura videos in Blackboard Ultra documents as shown above rather than directly in the content area. OLS is planning upgrades to the Kaltura player for Summer 2025 that may make it display better directly in the content area — please visit this page later, if this is of interest to you.
