Polling 

Polls are great to engage your students/participants and keep them interested.   Students/participants respond to your poll by selecting one of up to five responses. 

  1. Log into Blackboard 
  2. Join Session 
  3. Click the purple button -  bottom right hand corner of the screen

4.  Click the square with arrow icon, which is the Share Content feature

5. Click Polling

6.  Select Poll

Note: If you choose one of the numbered choice polls, students/participants see numbers as their choices.  Tell your students/participants what each number represents.  Share an image, Powerpoint, or the whiteboard to show your poll question and the numbered choices with related responses.  Example: If you choose 3 Choices poll and have choices 1. Yes, 2. No, 3. Maybe, students/participants can choose between 1, 2, 3 as their response. 


7. Click Start

8. Wait while students/participants answer the poll

10. Click Lock Poll to allows for no more answers.  Click unlock poll to allow for more answers.  Click Clear to clear the answers

Breakout groups allow for small group collaboration, instructors or leaders can create breakout groups that are separate from the main room and assign attendees to them.  Every attendee in the group is a presenter, which means all attendees can share the whiteboard, files, and applications with the rest of their group.

  1. Log into Blackboard 
  2. Join Session 
  3. Click the purple button -  bottom right hand corner of the screen

4.  Click the square with arrow icon, which is the Share Content feature

5. Click Breakout Groups

6.  Select the students you want in each group.  You can add and move students and participants by assigning them to a group or by dragging and dropping the name to a group.  Create a new group by clicking the plus sign

Note:  Blackboard Collaborate Ultra can create groups and randomly assign attendees when there are four or more people in the room.   Allow students and participants to switch groups, if you want them to be able to move to another group on their own. 


7. Click Start

Monitoring Groups 

After breakout groups have started instructors and leaders can move between groups to monitor them.  If instructors and leaders assign themselves to a group, they can see and hear what others in the group are doing.

Moving Attendees to Another Group 

Moderators can move attendees between groups.  From the attendees panel, find an attendee and select moderator controls.  Select Move to another group.  This will open the Breakout groups panel.  Move the attendee to another group.

To end the breakout groups, select End Breakout Groups
