Report a Reporting Line Change for an Employee

Purpose

Use this guide to initiate either of these changes in who an employee reports to:

  • Who they directly report to (direct reporting line change)
  • Who they indirectly report to by way of a dotted line (dotted reporting line change)

A. Gather the Required Information

Before you request a reporting line change for an employee, gather this information:

  • Date the change is to take effect
  • If they are changing who they directly report to, the name of the new person they will report to
  • If they are adding or changing a dotted reporting line, the name of the new person they will indirectly report to

Note:  If this is a multi-incumbent position (PIN), chartstring changes will affect all employees in this PIN.

B. Launch the Form

  1. If you are a:
    Manager: Find the person in the My Team list of your Manager Self Service home page.
    Department administrator: Find the person in the company directory of your Departmental Administrator home page.

  2. Click the green arrow next to the person's name and choose Reporting Line Change.

C. Fill Out the Form

Use this section for guidance on filling out the form.
Reports To form with numbered callouts to the different fields of information and buttons

1. Current Direct and Dotted Reporting Lines
The form shows you who the person's current reporting line(s).

2. Change Direct Reporting Line?
If you want to change the person's direct reporting line, click the switch to show Yes.

3. Change Dotted Reporting Line?
If you want to change the person's dotted reporting line, click the switch to show Yes.

4. Effective Date
Enter the date the change is to take effect or click the calendar button and choose the date.

5. Direct Reporting Line Changes
To change someone's direct reporting line, find the new person they will directly report to:

A. In the search criteria boxes, enter any information that will help identify the new person they will report to.

B. Click Search.

C. In the Search Results dialog box, click the name of the new person they will report to.

6. Dotted Reporting Line Changes
To change someone's dotted reporting line, find the new person they will have a dotted reporting line to:

A. In the search criteria boxes, enter any information that will help identify the new person they will have a dotted reporting line to.

B. Click Search.

C. In the Search Results dialog box, click the name of the new person they will have a dotted reporting line to.

7. Save For Later
To save the form and finish it later, click Save For Later.

8. Submit
When you have completed the form, click Submit Update.

D. Check the Status of Approvals

A reporting line change includes these approvals and notifications:
