There are multiple ways to view DVD sources within a classroom. This document will give instructions on play DVDs, VHS tapes, and Blu-Ray discs with the appropriate technology. Included are instructions for DVD/VCR players, Blu-Ray players, and the Windows computer.
DVD/VCR Players
If a DVD/VCR combo unit is in the classroom, VHS tapes or DVD's can be played off of this device. To use this device, follow these instructions:
Turn on the technology system
Select DVD/VCR as the projected source
A command should be sent to turn on the DVD/VCR player
Press the eject button on the DVD/VCR (See: Figure 1.2_DVD VCR_Insert)
Insert the disc or tape and press the eject button again to close the device
Make sure that the DVD/VCR player is in the correct mode (See: Figure 1.3_DVD VCR_Select Mode)
DVD or Video, will need to be selected
Use the controls on the player, to Play/Pause/Stop/Rewind/Fast-Forward the video being projected (See: Figure 1.3_DVD VCR_Select Mode)
Controls may also be found on the Touch Panel, if one is present in the room. (See: Figure 2_Touch Panel_DVD Controls)
A remote controller can also be found in the accessory drawer located on the teaching station or on the technology rack in the room.
Blu-Ray Players
Newer rooms may include a Blu-Ray player in the technology system. These players are able to play both DVDs and Blu-Rays. It is recommended, that if present, the Blu-Ray is used to play DVDs. The following instructions explain how to use this device:
Turn on the technology system
Select Blu-Ray as the projected source
A command should be sent to turn on the Blu-Ray player
Press the eject button on the Player (See: Figure 3.2_Blu-Ray_Disc Insert)
Insert the disc or tape and press the eject button again to close the device
A remote controller can also be found in the accessory drawer located on the teaching station or on the technology rack in the room.
Controls may also be found on the Touch Panel, if one is present in the room. (See: Figure 4_Touch Panel_Blu-Ray Controls)
Playing DVDs with the Windows Computer
For rooms that do not include a Blu-Ray or DVD/VCR player, the Windows Computer can be used to play DVDs. The following instructions explain how to use the Windows Computer as a DVD player:
Turn on the technology system
Select PC as the projected source
The user will have to manually turn on the PC as a command is not sent when turning on the technology system
Press the eject button on the PC, which is found on the front of the DVD Rom. (See: Figure 5.2_Windows Computer_DVD Insert)
Insert the disc or tape and press the eject button again to close the device. (See: Figure 5_Windows Computer_DVD Player)
Note: There are no controls on the Touch Panel or physical controls on the PC to control the video source
An application on the PC will need to be used to play and control the DVD/Video source
Once the disc is inserted, log into the Windows Computer
Search for the application "VLC" in the lower menu of the Windows Computer and open the application (See: Figure 6_Windows Computer_VLC)
Use the virtual buttons on the VLC application to play and control the video (See: Figure 6.2_Windows Computer_VLC Interface)
Volume can be controlled within the VLC application, on the Touch Panel, or on the Window Computer audio settings. (See: Figure 6.3_Windows Computer_Audio Settings)
