If students want ArcGIS Pro on their own computers there is now a free single-use full version of ArcGIS Pro 2.8 available on Answers.
The quickest link to it is on my GIS research guide. It’s the first small box on the left side on the ESRI Site License Info tab: https://researchguides.library.syr.edu/GIS/Esri-site-license.
They can still get to ArcGIS via the remote desktop as well.
If they need access to ArcGIS Online, have them contact me directly, as I am the one who creates the invitations to join.
