Topic Overview

The latest version of Blackboard offers the ability to set up a shared/web folder on your local computer that directly connects to your course content folder for a specific course. This allows you to add files to your course without logging into Blackboard.

Steps

In order to set up a shared location:

  1. Go to the course content files area located in the Control Panel > Files > "Course ID" and click on the course link.

  2. This will return the course content page with a "Setup a shared location" link. Click on this link for instructions on how to set up a shared location on your system.

Set Up Shared Locations in Mac OS

Using the Web address of the folder, follow these steps to mount the shared location in Mac OS:

  1. On the Finder bar, select the Go menu and then, select Connect to Server.

  2. In the Connect to Server window, type the address of your course offered in the instructions in the Server Address field. Click the plus sign to add this address to the Favorite Servers box.

  3. Click Connect. When prompted to enter a name and password, type your Blackboard Learn username and password. Click Connect.

  4. The Shared Location will open. It will now be listed in the Computer sidebar under Shared.

For Mac OSX:

To connect to the Web Folder for the course, use the the web address of the folder offered in the instructions and a valid username and password (this is your NetID and password).
Each folder selected will have a different URL. Any folder can be selected. However, the Web Folder path must be less than 200 characters.

The address is different for each course and will be given to you in the setup instructions in the course. (The url will reference the blackboard server/bbcswebdav/Courseid)

 Set Up Web Folders in Windows 7

Using the Web address of the folder, follow these steps to create the Web Folder in Windows 7.

  1. Open Start > Computer.

  2. In the empty area at the bottom of the right-hand pane, right-click and select Add a network location.

  3. The Add Network Location Wizard will open. Click Next.

  4. When asked where you want to create the network location, select Choose a custom network location. Click Next.

  5. When asked for the location of your website, type the address of your course offered in the instructions*. Click *Next*.

  6. When prompted to enter a username and password, type your Blackboard Learn username and password. Click OK.

  7. You will be prompted to enter a name for the location. Enter a name and select Next.

  8. On the Completing the Add Network Location Wizard page, Click Finish.

  9. The Web Folder will open. It will now be listed in Computer under Network Location

For Windows 7:

To connect to a Web Folder, use the following Web address of the folder and a valid username and password (this is your NetID and password). Each folder selected will have a different URL. Any folder can be selected; however, the Web Folder path must be less than 200 characters.
