Economic principles relevant to management of information functions in organizational contexts. Core micro-economic concepts applied to the marketplace for information products and services. Financial tools used for managing information systems and networks.

Learning Objectives

After taking this course, students will be able to:

  1. Understand the basic principles of economics and how they relate to an information-based economy.
  2. Understand information economics and how it differs from classical economic theory.
  3. Apply basic economic theory to management of information systems and information industries.
  4. Understand introductory cost-benefit analysis with application to information technology in the firm.
