Download SURA to your Computer
Go to the SU Downloads page to obtain the SURA utility. When prompted, save the sura.exe file to a location you will be able to easily find again on your local computer (such as your desktop or documents folder).
Double-click on the sura.exe file. Enter your SU NetID username and password in the appropriate fields and click Connect.
- Connect to the Syracuse University network using the SURA VPN client.
- Download the Cisco IP Communicator client by clicking the link below.
- Navigate to the folder that contains the Cisco IP Communicator client.
- Right-click on the file CiscoIPCommunicatorSetup.exe and left-click on Run as Administrator.
- Select your preferred language and click OK.
- Click Next.
- Select "I accept the terms in the license agreement", and click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Install.
- Make sure the Launch Cisco IP Communicator box is checked. Click Finish.
- Note: If the option to Launch Cisco IP Communicator is not available, you may be prompted to restart your computer once you click Finish. Do so, and once your computer restarts, launch Cisco IP Communicator.

- Click Next.
- Select your Headset, Speakerphone, Handset, and Ringer using the drop-down arrow on the right side of each field. Click Next.
- Click Play and adjust your listening volume to your satisfaction using the Master and Wave sliders. Click Next.
- Adjust the microphone volume by following the instructions in the dialog box. Should you wish to hear your test, check the Playout check box and then click Test. Repeat this step as necessary to adjust microphone settings to your preference.
- When you see this screen, click Finish.
- Click the Menu button, which is the leftmost button located in the upper right of the Cisco IP Communicator interface.
- Click Preferences...
- Navigate to the network tab, and click the radio button Use this Device Name. Enter the device name provided by your manager or Syracuse University Telecommunications. If you are unsure, call 315-443-1887.
Under TFTP Servers, select Use these TFTP servers. Enter the following numbers in the fields provided:
TFTP Server 1: 128.230.160.10TFTP Server 2: 128.230.160.11
Click OK.
It may take some time for your IP Communicator client to register. You will know the client is ready when you see your phone number appear in the upper right-hand corner.
