Newhouse LA staff members are dedicated to helping every student secure an internship. partner with each student to ensure they secure an internship for the semester.
All students are required to have a one-on-one meeting interview with the program director to discuss areas of interest and potential internship placementopportunities. These appointments will take place in person (on main campus or at the Syracuse University Los Angeles Center) or via Skype (for students who are studying abroad or otherwise away from be via zoom (for summer and abroad students) or in-person (for fall/spring students on main campus).
Students are required to submit their resumes to the director before meeting. All students should visit the Newhouse Career Development Center (CDC) and attend the seminar on résumé and cover letter writing. Students should also review the résumé and cover letter writing resources provided by the CDC, as well as, How to Organize a Résumé, Résumé Example , Cover Letter Basics and Cover Letter Example.
Students should begin by researching internship opportunities online. Major media companies have formal internship programs with a variety of internships. These positions are very competitive and it is in the best interest of the student to immediately apply for any openings that are of interest. These opportunities are posted as they become available so it is important to check frequently. (View additional internship resources.) Opportunities at Major Studios
Newhouse LA staff will also post current internship opportunities and provide students with information regarding internships based on their expressed area of interest. Students will receive a job description, an overview of responsibilities and instructions on how to apply. This is not a guarantee of placement or acceptance. All Newhouse LA summer students are required to intern 18-to-35 hours per week. You will register for your internship (TRF 475) for one credit through MySlice at your appointed registration time. The Los Angeles Entertainment Industry Practicum is a required component of the program and must be taken in conjunction with your internship. The course meets three times during the summer and is taught by program director Robin Howard.
What do I do now that I have secured my internship?
At Newhouse LA orientation, you will receive an Internship Site Agreement (to complete with your supervisor and return to program staff) and instructions on how to register your internship on Handshake.
