All students are required to have a one-on-one meeting interview with the program director to discuss areas of interest and potential internship placementopportunities. These appointments will take place in person (on main campus or at the Syracuse University Los Angeles Center) or via Skype (for students who are studying abroad or otherwise away from be via zoom (for summer and abroad students) or in-person (for fall/spring students on main campus).
Students are required to submit their resumes to the director before meeting. All students should visit the Newhouse Career Development Center (CDC) and attend the seminar on résumé and cover letter writing. Students should also review the résumé and cover letter writing resources provided by the CDC, as well as, How to Organize a Résumé, Résumé Example , Cover Letter Basics and Cover Letter Example.
Students should begin by researching internship opportunities online. Major media companies have formal internship programs with a variety of internships. These positions are very competitive and it is in the best interest of the student to immediately apply for any openings that are of interest. Newhouse LA staff will also post current internship opportunities and provide students with information regarding internships based on their expressed area of interest. Students will receive a job description, an overview of responsibilities and instructions on how to apply. This is not a guarantee of placement or acceptance.
