What is Answers?
Answers is a knowledgebase of technical self-help information. Content focuses on SU systems and technical services and includes solutions to common problems, how-to’s, FAQs, tips, and configuration advice.
Many people have contributed to the information in Answers. While ITS's plan is to eventually check and moderate all content, we cannot currently guarantee the accuracy or relevance of all content.
Getting started
In the search box you may enter any combination of words to receive a list of hits. Every page in Answers contains a search box in the upper right-hand corner to search pages and attachments.

As you navigate deeper into Answers, you may find yourself wondering where you are. The easiest way to find out is to look at your "breadcrumbs" at the top of the screen. Breadcrumbs give you a graphical trail of where you are, including the current page. You can click on any of these "crumbs" to return to that page.
Pages can be added, edited or removed by anyone with the proper permissions. These pages are administrated by the owner/creator of the page who is responsible for setting up and maintaining the page and access restrictions.
Structure
There are two kinds of pages: parent pages and child pages. The parent pages will contain a group of child pages that are related to their specific topic. Parent pages will usually have an expandable menu to the left where you can view all the child pages available. A parent page will look like this:
Spaces
To view a list of all spaces available on Answers, click on the categories at the top of the screen (ex: ITS). These categories organize all the spaces into groups.
Non-Verified content
Currently, some content in Answers has not been verified to be accurate by ITS or an expert at SU. Previously, anyone with a netid could add content to Answers. While our aim is to eventually check and moderate all content, we cannot currently guarantee its accuracy or relevance. If you notice any factual discrepancies or errors, please send an email to help@syr.edu that includes the page URL. We will be focusing our future efforts on generating more verified content.
Restricted Content
Restricted spaces will only show on your dashboard if you are logged into answers and are allowed to access them. If you wish to create a space that only specific groups of people can see, contact ITS.
Independent Spaces
Answers hosts spaces for other departments within SU. Their spaces, called Independent Spaces, are completely separate from the rest. They are entirely run by the specific department and we cannot edit them.
Answers is Available on the internet
Answers.syr.edu is a publicly available system run by ITS-AASC at SU. Anyone on the internet can view the content unless it has been specifically restricted (by default, content is not restricted). Private or personal information should not be included in Answers.
