The College of Visual & Performing Arts website vpa.syr.edu is built using content blocks. These are reusable blocks of content that can easily be populated to any page for a custom layout. While there are limitations as to what can be done, the flexibility of the website allows for many options.

Types of Websites

 External

External websites are public-facing with marketing, advertising and PR goals as their primary purpose. The college site vpa.syr.edu is an external website.

NO CONTENT intended for only internal audiences (faculty, staff, current students) such as policies, documentation, recommendations etc. can go on the main college site. They belong on an internal site for many reasons.

 Internal

Internal websites are meant for specific organizations and their audiences. In this case, VPA's internal audience consists mainly of staff, faculty, current students, admitted students and alumni.

Answers.syr.edu, what you're on right now, is Syracuse University's and the College's internal website. A section of Answers can be created and used as each office's own website. Answers offers all the functionality of a typical website but is easier to use and strips away uneccessary visual fluff.

Page Templates

There are several page templates available to construct a webpage or build a microsite.

Standard Page

The standard academic page is the primary template used across the vpa.sry.edu website. Like the other templates, the standard academic page template is flexible and can be used to achieve a number of goals and layouts.

The key identifying features of the standard page include:

  • Includes College's primary navigation
    • and breadcrumbs
  • SU & VPA branding
  • Full-width option
    • option to enable a right-hand sidebar
