LEMP Studio

About the LEMP Studio

With advanced skills in film, linear/non-linear editing, and video production, the professional and student staff from the Learning Environments and Media Production (LEMP) team can help instructors and course coordinators create programs and course content that will help students succeed. The LEMP studio is fully equipped with top of the line recording equipment for online course content creation. Included is truss lighting, multi-cameras, audio/video mixing boards, green screen backdrops, and several computers for complete content creation. The studio is flexible and can be set-up in multiple ways.

Studio Scenes

Interview/Fireside Chat

LEMP offers a variety of seating options for interview recordings. We can also provide additional microphones, cameras, and backdrops to meet specific requirements.

Lightboard

The lightboard is a large, illuminated glass panel that functions similarly to a whiteboard for presenters. As it is glass, LEMP records the presenter as they face their audience.

Teaching Station

In the studio is a height adjustable teaching station which is similar to those in registrar classrooms. The presenter can record themselves with a separate video-feed of a Doc-Cam, personal device (like an iPad), or Wacom touch monitor.

Voiceover

With our voiceover services, LEMP will capture your narration and seamlessly synchronize it with visual elements, such as PowerPoint slides or images. Upon request, a member of our LEMP team can provide the voiceover recording.

Picture-in-Picture

Picture-in-Picture displays multiple video feeds on a single screen, with primary content (e.g., PowerPoint slides) occupying most of the space and a smaller video of the presenter overlaying it.

Speaker View

Speaker view is a presentation mode that prominently displays the speaker or presenter. This is ideal for welcome or introductory videos to enhance engagement and connection. A variety of backgrounds can be applied.

Prepare for Your Studio Visit

Once you have a studio session with LEMP scheduled, here are some tips to help make your experience as smooth as possible:

Please provide your materials to the LEMP team 48 hours prior to your studio session, so we can test them and have them ready!

  • Develop a script or talking points;

    • A confidence monitor will be utilized to display these materials.

  • Create visuals, PowerPoints and other materials.

It is recommended to:

  • Wear what makes you feel comfortable!

  • Avoid bright white as it can cause glare and over exposure;

  • Avoid busy, repeating patterns like thin stripes and small checks - even on ties and accessories. This can cause a moiré pattern to appear in the recording;

  • Avoid clothing with logos or text when using the lightboard as it will appear reflected;

  • Avoid wearing green or shades of green when using the green screen or you’ll be a floating face!

What to Expect

Upon arriving at the studio, you will be welcomed by our LEMP team. We will assist you with microphone setup and perform thorough tests and adjustments on all technical equipment. Before recording begins, you'll have the opportunity to warm up and conduct practice runs to ensure you are fully prepared. During your session, multiple cameras will be positioned to capture various angles. Expect to receive real-time feedback from our team to help refine your performance!

Please note that the duration of your time in the studio may vary depending on factors such as the final video length, number of takes, and the number of participants.

After your studio session, you will receive a draft of the video for review within 10 business days. You can request edits and should include time stamps to assist us with making precise adjustments. Once you are satisfied with the revised version(s), we will deliver the final product via video.syr.edu.

Please note that it is the University’s policy that all public-facing videos need to be captioned. The University is contracted with Automatic Sync to provide special rates for captioning. More information regarding captioning can be found by visiting Video Captioning Resources or contacting ITS Accessibility (accessibleIT@syr.edu). LEMP does not provide captioning services.
