What is WeVideo
WeVideo is the supported interactive video platform for Syracuse University faculty, staff, and students, letting you embed quiz questions, reflection prompts, and other interactions directly into videos from YouTube, Vimeo, and Kaltura. Students watch and respond within the video itself, rather than switching between a separate assignment and a passive recording.
WeVideo in Blackboard
WeVideo is available through Blackboard's Content Market as a course tool. Instructors embed interactive videos directly in their course content area and students open and complete them without leaving the course. Grades from those interactions sync automatically to the Blackboard gradebook, so there's no separate step to bring scores over. Because access runs through your existing Blackboard session, students do not need a separate login to reach the content — if they are enrolled in the course, they have access to WeVideo.
WeVideo without Blackboard
WeVideo is not only for instructors building course content — it is also available to any faculty or staff member who needs to create an interactive video outside of a course. Departments and units across the university use it for staff onboarding, institutional and compliance training, and department-specific procedures that need to be walked through step by step, using embedded checkpoints to support staff engagement in quick trainings. Because these videos do not depend on a Blackboard course shell, they work just as well for a one-time training as for something ongoing that a whole office needs to reference.
Go to wevideo.syr.edu and sign in with your SU NetID to access. From there you can create, edit, and organize interactive videos with no course behind them, embedding checkpoints and questions the same way you would in a course video. Once a video is finished, share it by sending a direct link, rather than embedding it in Blackboard content.
Use Cases
Instructors use WeVideo for a range of teaching goals, from flipping class time to checking understanding before an exam. A few common use cases:
