How to install Enscape for Rhino on a personal computer (Windows only)
Enscape will only work if you first install and configure the SU Azure VPN using these steps.
Once you have the VPN installed, before starting Rhino, start the VPN app and sign in. When you are done Rhino/Enscape, disconnect the VPN.
Uninstall any previous version of Enscape, then restart your computer.
Obtain the new Enscape installation file from the Student Resources folder on the G drive. Find it in G:\ARCH-FILER\Student Resources\Software\Enscape for Rhino.
Copy the installation file to your computer (don’t install directly from the G drive or you may get errors).
Start the installation by double clicking the file ‘Enscape-4.12.0.204.exe’.
On the Language window click ADVANCED.
On the Licensing screen:
select Remote
Primary License Server: Click this link to obtain the server name (login required).
On the Host Application box, uncheck everything except Rhino.
Click Install and wait a few moments for it to finish. Uncheck ‘Anonymized Telemetry’ unless you are comfortable sharing your usage.
Click Done (you don’t need to sign in).
Start Rhino, wait for it to load the Enscape plugin. It may ask for access through the windows firewall, which you should allow.
If you don’t see the Enscape toolbars in Rhino, click Tools > Options.
In the Rhino Options window, click Toolbars on the left.
Then click the drop down that says ‘default’ and select Enscape.Rhino8.Plugin:
Select the top item ‘Enscape’.
This should immediately turn on the Enscape toolbar:
Troubleshooting
Is your Internet connection working? Enscape needs an active network connection.
Did you remember to install and start the SU VPN (see green box at top of this page)? This is required for Enscape to access the license.
Are you using the school’s Enscape installation package from the G drive at G:\Student Resources\Software\Enscape? Other versions may not work.
If you receive an error message that Enscape has trouble starting and you’ve already verified it’s install correctly and the SU VPN is running, update your graphics card drivers to the latest version. This resolved the problem for several students.
Enscape is incompatible with GOverlay and apps like medal.tv that use GOverlay. Uninstall the app to if the Enscape viewport window starts to load but then closes unexpectedly.
