Courtesy Appointments to the School of Education

Courtesy Appointments to the School of Education

When a faculty member employed by another school or college at Syracuse University requests a courtesy appointment in the School of Education, the Dean shall first assess whether the candidate's expertise, scholarly interests, and professional activities align with the School's mission and academic priorities. If the Dean determines the appointment is appropriate, the Dean shall schedule a vote, either in person or electronically, of the school's full-time faculty.

A majority vote shall be defined as more than fifty percent (50%) of the faculty members participating in the vote, provided a quorum is present.

Upon approval by a majority of said faculty, the Dean shall use the courtesy faculty appointment letter template provided by the Office of Faculty Affairs to delineate the courtesy faculty member's rights and responsibilities. Following issuance of this letter, the courtesy appointment shall commence.

Such appointments shall be limited to five years in length but are renewable with the approval of the School's faculty following the same process.
