The VPA Equipment Cage is located in room 232, Shaffer Art Building. The Cage provides equipment access to students and faculty in the Department of Film & Media Arts (FMA) and students currently enrolled in an FMA course. Students in the School of Art are able to access the Cage on a case-by-case basis.

The Cage houses audio, lighting, photography, filmmaking, animation, and VR equipment. A complete equipment list can be found on Blackboard Organization > VPA Equipment Cage. For normal reservations, equipment can be kept for four-day periods from Thursday to Monday, or Friday to Tuesday. Students cannot check out gear on Wednesdays. Students can keep equipment for longer during holiday and semester breaks.

In addition to equipment reservations, the Cage manages lab and production spaces in Shaffer Art Building. Please note that equipment and production spaces can only be reserved in-person. The computer art (016), photography (036), and video editing suites (001) are open only during lab hours.

Visit the VPA Equipment Cage Blackboard Organization page for all up-to-date information, including Cage and Labs operating hours, forms, policies, and frequently asked questions. For questions or access requests to the Blackboard Organization page, please email vpacage@syr.edu.

Borrowing equipment from the VPA Equipment Cage must be for class-related work.
