2024-25

The College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Research and Creative Grants Program is intended to support and encourage the growth of research and creative work in the College of Visual and Performing Arts that might attract external funding. This is so important to our identity that even during this pandemic we will still offer this grant opportunity. All tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-track faculty who are full time in VPA are encouraged to apply.

Awards

  • Small Scale Research and Creative Work grants ($1000-5000)

Permissible Costs

Funds may be used for:

  • travel costs for faculty and/or collaborators essential to the creative initiative (including VPA students)
  • data collection or analysis (including via hourly work by VPA students)
  • software, supplies, or other related tools and materials essential to research and creative work
  • Innovative and collaborative projects such as performances, exhibits, etc.

Funds may not be used for:

  • faculty salary or stipends
  • program development or evaluation without an accompanying research or creative work component

Proposal Submission and Evaluation Process

Each application will be reviewed by a committee and the associate dean for research using the following criteria:

Please note: DEADLINE FOR USING FUNDS: MAY 15, 2022 (Funds awarded for must be spent and receipts submitted for reimbursement by May 15, 2022.  Funds not spent by those deadlines will be returned to the College for reallocation to other applicants.  Applicants needing additional time will need to arrange for that with the VPA Office of Budget and Operations)VPA. Additional goals include attracting external funding, prestigious awards, and other forms of national or international recognition.

Proposals that align with one or more of the areas of distinctive and aspirational excellence in the University’s Academic Strategic Plan are desired, especially those that address diversity, equity, and inclusion. Faculty are encouraged to include students in proposed projects. Finally, proposals that are collaborative among and across disciplines are strongly encouraged.

Awards

VPA Research and Creative Grants range from $1,000 to $5,000.

Eligibility

All VPA tenure-track and tenured full-time faculty are eligible to apply. Non-tenure track faculty, including postdoctoral scholars and visiting professors, are not eligible to apply.

To allow the funding of multiple projects, 2023-24 awardees are ineligible to apply in 2024-25. They will be eligible to apply again in 2025-26. Note: Awardees of a 2024-25 VPA Research and Creative Grant will not be eligible to apply for a 2024-25 VPA Faculty Enrichment Fund award or a 2024-25 Faculty Creative Activities and Research (FCAR) Grant.

Applications for the VPA Research and Creative Grants 2024-25 must be submitted via the Syracuse University Application Portal. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
