Audience

The course is intended primarily for Ph.D. students in Information Science and Technology, though it can be of interest and value to students in other programs.

Learning Objectives

After taking this course, the students will be able to: 

  1. Generate a researchable question given a topic of interest.
  2. Conduct a basic literature review for a given research topic.
  3. Critique various research methods including the pros and cons of each.
  4. Identify appropriate research methods for a given research question.
  5. Carry out research activities that use one or more major research methods in information studies.
  6. Present the research design and the findings of research.
  7. Engage in ethical considerations in the process of conducting a research activity.
