What can the AI in blackboard do? How can it help me with my course?

The AI assistant in blackboard is there to help you with building your course. The assistant is designed to assist you with creating content for your course which is completely customizable, and it never saves your data. Descriptions can be used to guide the content that is generated so it can be as helpful as possible. The design assistant has been created to help instructors spend more time teaching and less time designing their course.

What AI features are included in Blackboard?

The AI design assistant can help design your course by suggest modules for your course. There is an option for generating prompts for discussions and journals that require students to use cognitive skills in their response. Rubric can be easily created using the rubric generator. Test questions can be generated from your course and the text within documents and used to create a question banks. Images can also be generated from the AI design assistant to match the content in your course.

This tool is optional, but available on all Ultra courses and cannot be turned off. The AI design assistant is available to assist you with your course, but is only in use when you choose to use it. It does not store any of your data in the design assistant or use your data for any AI training.

Can students access this?

No, these AI features within Blackboard are not available to students. 

Will it store my data? 

No, Microsoft contractually commits in its Azure OpenAI terms with Anthology to not use any input into, or output of, the Azure OpenAI for the (re)training of the large language model.

Are my prompts and generations used to train Azure OpenAI?

No prompts or generations are stored in the model. Your prompts and generations are  not used to train, retrain or improve Azure OpenAI. 

Do I have to check for incorrect information when using these AI features?

Yes. You are encouraged to ensure that all generated information is free from grammatical, syntax, and informational errors before submitting to students.
