If you have requested that a Virtual Machine be created for your research computing needs, you will need a couple bits of information to access it:

If you're on campus, or are off-campus using a campus-managed laptop configured with DirectAccess, you can skip this step.

Windows

  • Download the SURA (the SU VPN tool) for Windows. Try to save it to your Desktop for easy access.
  • Double click to run the file you downloaded, and log in with your SU NetID credentials. When you're connected you should see a dialog that looks like this:

  • When you see that, find the field for Remote Desktop (it's near the middle of the window)
  • In the field titled "Computer", type the hostname of your virtual machine (this would be given to you by your tech-support representative.
  • Click the button that says "Connect". 
  • You should be logged in to your VM - it would look just like you've logged into any campus computer.
