Beyond the classroom, consider becoming a VPA peer advisor (see below) , or joining a student group, holding a leadership position, seeking student employment, and getting involved in the community via Syracuse University’s Mary Ann Shaw Center for Public & Community Service. Whatever the combination, we encourage you to seek opportunities for personal and professional growth through activities that suit your goals and interests
Become a VPA Peer Advisor
Do you want to mentor first-year VPA students? Are you a student in good academic standing? The College of Visual and Performing Arts’ Peer Advising Program provides an opportunity for you to meet and assist new students in their transition to college. In the process, you will develop and sharpen your leadership skills.
Peer advisors are liaisons between the college and its students and serve as an important link between first-year students and the Student Success team. They are resource people.
Advisors are assigned a group of incoming students to connect with over the summer and mentor throughout the coming academic year.
Application Process
If you would like to learn more about Peer Advisor Team involvement, please contact Vicki R. Smith at vrsmith@syr.edu.
Look for the application period to open in early Spring 2020.
